RSE Policy Consultation

The Department for Education announced changes to the relationships and sex education curriculum following nationwide consultation. These changes came into effect from September 2020 and all schools will be required to comply with the updated requirements by the start of the summer term this year.  As part of implementing the RSE curriculum, schools need to consult with the whole school community to ensure there is a general consensus on our approaches to policy and the curriculum content.

Following our consultation with parents from 5th February until 13th February, we wanted to share the feedback we received.

We received 20 responses which included responses from every year group.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development is a fundamental area of learning in Year R.  The children learn about how to start building relationships which includes working and playing cooperatively and taking turns with others, forming positive attachments to adults and friendships with peers as well as showing sensitivity to their own and to others’ needs.

This forms the foundations for learning about relationships throughout the children’s time at Titchfield Primary School.

We would like to thank everyone who engaged with the consultation.  If you have any questions about the Relationship and Sex Education curriculum, please contact your child’s class teacher.

The two comments which were made related to the teaching of RSE in Year R and a positive comment about the policy being really good with particular praise for self-esteem, positive self-image, media influence and teaching the tools for positive mental wellbeing and resilience.
